BOOKKEEPER/ACCOUNTANT
The City of Hernando is now accepting applicants for the position of Bookkeeper/Accountant. This position will report directly to the Director to Finance.
Major Duties and Responsibilities
Reconcile daily all bank and credit card accounts, and resolve all unapplied items.
Assists and update spreadsheet with all department Fixed Asset and City inventory transactions.
Code and completely process of all Accounts Payable vendor invoices.
Process and prepare check run for docket, and issue checks for mailing or pickup.
Process all cash receipts and all online payments, including ACH payments via
bank website.
Communicate with vendors with any issues and request Form W-9 to identify 1099 vendors.
Assist Director of Finance during financial audits and any end of year requirements as assigned.
Maintain files and records retention process as required.
Perform other duties as necessary and assigned
Knowledge
Advanced knowledge of budgeting, accounting, and government finances as well as government processes and services
Advanced bookkeeping, accounting, and budgeting principles
Mathematical skills, including addition, subtraction, division and multiplication
Proper grammar and use of English in speaking and writing
Basic understanding of the Governmental Accounting Standard’s Board (GASB) statements issued
Skills and Abilities
Ability to work independently on a daily basis
Ability to apply principles of logical thinking to a wide range of intellectual and practical problems
Ability to take initiative and utilize innovative techniques and ingenuity
Ability to travel for educational opportunities and seminars for governmental accounting, compliance and grant management updates
Strong organizational and time management skills
Strong spreadsheet experience
Use of computer skills including email, Word, Excel, and financial software
Prepare and maintain a variety of records and reports
Prioritize daily workflow
Meet specified or required deadlines
Make decisions within specified time restraints
Maintain confidentiality when necessary
Handle multiple tasks simultaneously with frequent interruptions
Deal with others in a professional manner
Maintain professional composure in difficult or stressful situations
Follow departmental and City policies and procedures
Education and Experience Requirements
Associates Degree in Accounting, Finance or related field required
Minimum of 5 years heavy accounting experience and reconciliation experience required
Minimum 3 years PC skills, especially Excel with strong spreadsheet experience
Certified Bookkeeper designation preferred
Experience with BBI Budgetary Software a plus
