Join us for the first Senior Citizen Day of the season at the Hernando Farmers Market this Saturday on the historic Town Square.
Senior Citizen Day, sponsored by the DeSoto County Farm Bureau Federation, takes place on the second Saturday of each month from May through October from 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
The first 100 senior citizens ages 50 and older will receive $5 in Hernando Farmers Market tokens to spend with participating vendors throughout the market. Tokens are available on a first come, first served basis, and attendees are encouraged to arrive early.
The Hernando Farmers Market is located at 2535 Highway 51 South in Hernando and features a wide variety of locally grown and handmade products including fresh fruits and vegetables, local honey, baked goods, nursery plants, fresh salsa and guacamole, pasture-raised eggs, handmade crafts, and more.
Throughout the market season, visitors can also enjoy live music, free fitness classes, and special community events during market hours.
As a Mississippi Certified Market through the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce, the Hernando Farmers Market provides shoppers with access to fresh, local, high-quality products from regional vendors and farmers.
The market accepts credit cards and SNAP/EBT benefits at the market information table, where customers can exchange payment for vendor tokens. SNAP participants may also take advantage of the Double Up Food Bucks Mississippi program, which provides additional benefits for purchasing fresh fruits and vegetables.
