Prospective Farmers Market Vendors
Applications for vendors will open March 6, 2025
If you are interested in joining the market as a vendor, please start by reading our guidelines listed in the vendor application below. To be considered as a vendor you must complete an application, read and sign the waiver and agreement to the rules in the operating guidelines.
We are primarily a producers’ market with a limited number of artisan crafts, that focus on garden, kitchen or natural products, hand crafted, and absolutely no re-sales on any items. Sales of food products, whether at farmers markets or road side stands, are regulated by the Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce (MDAC) and the Mississippi Department of Health.
The sale of any food product, including produce and processed food, requires attendance at a food safety class.
If you would like to sell meat, milk, cheese, poultry or eggs you must have a Retail Food Sanitation License from MDAC.
Sale of acidified products, like pickles, require attendance at an Acidified Canning Class. Home processed low risk foods are permissible for sale with certain conditions. See the Cottage Food Law guidelines below. The market works partners with the DeSoto County MSU Extension office to offer Food Safety and Acidified Food Canning classes.
Vendors selling products that are grown, made, or processed in the State of Tennessee must obtain a Mississippi sales tax permit with the City of Hernando listed as the permit location to sell at the Hernando Farmers Market.
According to the Mississippi Department of Revenue, sales tax is not required on eligible food products grown, made, or processed in Mississippi and sold directly by the producer at a MISSISSIPPI CERTIFIED FARMERS MARKET. This exemption applies only to qualifying food products and does not apply to crafts, services, or any non-exempt goods. Vendors are responsible for understanding and complying with all Mississippi Department of Revenue sales tax rules that apply to their specific products.
